Blending Gets Better, Right?

Scroll down to content

Matt and I are only a few months away from celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary!

It’s during these milestones that I look back and reflect on how far we’ve come.

I honestly had no idea how difficult blending our families would be and at times even questioned if we were going to make it.

Oh how grateful I am that we have pushed through those hard times!

I belong to several blended family/step-family support groups and one question that gets asked by new members is “does it get any easier?”.

What’s the answer?

Yes.

At least for our family it has.

The first couple years is a time of introduction and meshing of personalities (harder than you can imagine if you haven’t done this). Then comes a period of figuring out your new “normal”. And now, almost 4 years later, we are in a stage of getting through the day to day, normally, and dealing with the issues as they come. And they do come! Yes, we still have lots of issues arise but they are handled much differently than 4 years ago.

No one can prepare you for what your blended family will go through, you just do it. What I can say that has helped is knowing that I am not alone in this journey and that there are countless other families going through the same struggles.

One of the most important things I’ve learned so far in this journey is that nothing good comes easy. Raising children is hard and so can being married but it’s SO WORTH IT.

Hang in there if you are new, it does get better!!

Here is a four year difference below. Our 2019 photo does not include our oldest son because he is currently in Santiago, Chile serving a 2 year religious mission❤️
