Family Cloths. Oh H No.

Family Cloths.

I will get back to deeper blog topics, I promise, but I could not let this subject go without making a comment.

I’ve really tried not to be judgmental, really I have. But can we just talk about what a “family cloth” is and how uncomfortable it makes me.

“The family cloth” is a reusable alternative to toilet paper, made of rags, old t-shirts, sewn fabric, or purchased cloth wipes. They are mostly used for wiping pee, but some families use them for poop and periods. “

Just stop right there.

No.

I just can’t even believe this.

I realize we all want to be eco-friendly but can we agree just for a moment that this kind of crosses the line? Even the hippie line?

Mother Earth will forgive us for using toilet paper, right? She has to!

Oh please Lord do not let me visit a friend that makes me use their family cloth. Because honestly, what proof do I have that these cloths have been properly bleached and boiled over 200 degrees?

So many family cloth users say “it’s really no big deal”.

Really? Really?!

The same cloth that dad is using to wipe his bum today is the same cloth mom used for her period last week?!

I’m disgusted. Horrified actually.

We do have other options but seriously, toilet paper is just not that expensive.

Here is a link to a bidet attachment sold on Amazon. It’s $25 and has a 4.5 star rating.

And here is probably my favorite article on why you shouldn’t use a family cloth, if you are still not convinced. Lots of great information.

And if you still want to use those cloths because of finances please start a gofundme, I’ll donate. I promise.

<okay, rant over. I’ll get back to my usual posts>

      1. Funny you should say that—I was laying in bed the other night, trying to sleep and I kept thinking about this. I thought to myself “am I REALLY losing sleep over a family cloth?!”
        Yes. Yes I did.
        Should I be ashamed? I don’t know…
        hahaha!

Seriously, in America we have great plumbing everywhere and TP is cheap and there is even TP made from recycled paper for crying out loud!

  1. Ok so I swear I just went to UrbanLegends.com and snopes.com, hoping that this was, pardon the pun, bullish!&. I couldn’t find anything. I just want to ask, “who does this”? Why can’t they go out and grab leaves, like in the further back olden days, for g•• sake? I’m gonna stop now, or I may add another rant here. 🙄

I’m not even kidding, I lost sleep over this. I’m like “we have plumbing, TP is cheap, there is no need for this”
To go through the buying of fabric, stitching it correctly, adding a special container in your bathroom, the smell, the washing and sanitizing….all in hopes of Saving Our Planet?!!!!!
I just don’t understand some people, ewwwee!
      I’m not doing it!

      1. We also have biodegradable tp? Anything has to better than a communal butt towel. I guess people who used cloth diapers can’t let go 😂. I’m not a female but it is kind of how I feel about those “cups”. I’m not sure how they work, but the vision in my head is very disturbing. My daughter told me about them and attempted to describe it to me. Still, the word cup should not have been used in the naming 😳 Not as bad as the poop towel, but still upsetting nonetheless. 😬

      2. I’m a female and wondering how anyone actually changes that cup without a mess. I mean really, gross.
